06 2 Peter 2:1-3 Why 2 Peter 2 and Jude are similar (2 Peter 2:1-3)Krisan Marotta, November 14, 2018
Part of the Peter, Second series, taught at a Wednesday in the Word Bible study
2 Peter 2 begins a new topic: the coming judgment. While the main point of the chapter is fairly clear, the way Peter makes his point presents some interpretative challenges: 1) 2 Peter 2 focuses on judgment -- an unpopular topic for today's American church. 2) 2 Peter 2 and the Epistle of Jude presents the same ideas in the same order and often use the same words. Did Peter copy from Jude? Did Jude copy from Peter? Or did they both copy from someone else? 3) Both Peter and Jude appear to quote from a non-biblical source.

2 Peter 2:1-3
1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. (KJV)
