For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. – Ephesians 1:15-19
We live in a moment unlike any other. We have so much information at our fingertips, so many medical advancements, we are developing cures for some of the most horrible of diseases, and science seems to be pushing the envelope of knowledge. We have developed amazing ways of communicating, amazing ways of travel, amazing conveniences for living our lives. Open before us are a multitude of choices; even what some would say a multitude of “truths” from which to choose. The clarion call of our day is freedom and more specifically freedom to be me.
However, on the other side of the coin, we have more people suffering from depression, more broken homes, more suicides, more confusion than ever before. We have hundreds of friends on Facebook; but we have few friends in our lives. We are more educated than ever before; but we seem to know less about the things that really matter.
We seem to be adrift, but why? Is “truth” as the world defines it, really truth at all? Is freedom as the world defines it, really freedom at all? And who will help me know the me I am free to be?
