Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me…
At one time, not so long ago, Christians were passionate about seeking to understand and know God. To study the attributes of God was a glorious and regular endeavor. However, somewhere we lost our passion. We now seem more intent upon understanding and knowing ourselves. We live in a culture where God is being re-imaged before our very eyes. We are encouraged to let God be who we need him to be. We have lost our great boast – to understand and know God.
Who are you God? That will be the question we will be searching to answer in deeper ways this semester. God has chosen to reveal Himself to us in astounding ways – to condescend and let us catch glimpses of His glory. Some of the attributes we will be studying will be holiness, majesty, omnipotence, truth, wisdom, wrath, justice, jealousy, goodness, love, patience, grace and faithfulness.
And should you think that this study is too removed from how we live our lives day to day, be encouraged because this study will take us into the very heart of who we are and into the glory of the Gospel as we see Jesus more clearly as “the radiance of the glory of God, and the exact imprint of His nature.”
